Frequently Asked Questions
What is flash fiction anyway?
Flash fiction refers to fic written as a response to a challenge under a time constraint. After taking in poll results, we decided that the time period for responses would be 2 weeks.
Is art allowed?
Yes, art is welcome as a challenge response. You are responsible for hosting of any images/vids/etc.
How often do new challenges start?
Generally, a new challenge will be posted every two weeks. However, there is no strict posting schedule (to allow for the admins to have lives), so you can keep posting responses until the official “Challenge closed” post goes up. A new challenge will be posted shortly thereafter.
What happens if I don’t finish my fic in time?
You will only have the time until the challenge is closed to post any challenge responses to the community. We anticipate doing some “amnesty” challenges at the end of the year that would allow you to play with old challenges, but in general, all fic is expected to be submitted by the time the challenge is closed. Of course, you know, if you’re really inspired by a challenge and work on an epic that is posted to your LJ/DW or fic site eventually, we won’t cry foul. It just wouldn’t belong on the community at that time.
Is there a minimum/maximum number of words required?
Yes, please post stories that are at least 100 words. The maximum is up to you. Please use cut tags with longer stories.
What kinds of fics are allowed?
All kinds! Het/Slash/Gen, any rating, any pairing (or no pairing!). All are welcome as long as they fit within challenge parameters.
Do I have to be a member of LJ/DW to post a challenge response?
No, anonymous fiction and/or art is welcome. You may post this as a response on the challenge introduction post.
Will challenges be mirrored at both DW and LJ?
Yes, all admin posts will be posted to both communities. Your challenge responses may be posted at either LJ or DW or at both; it’s up to you. You don’t have to feel obligated to post to both. Your admins will round up links to all challenge responses at the end of the challenge.
Can I crosspost my fic/art to other comms/my personal journal/an archive/my website/etc.?
For the duration of the challenge, please post exclusively to the DW/LJ h50_flashfic communities. Once the challenge has been closed, you may post your fic/art wherever you please! This is a guideline the community voted on and chose.
What if I have questions not covered in the FAQ?
Ask any additional questions in comments to this post, and we will add to the list as needed.
Thanks!
